Track Review: "Heartbreak" by XPLOR

New to the Nashville music scene, enigmatic indie synth pop duo XPLOR comes offering up their debut single "Heartbreak" just in time for summer. It brings with it a groovy warmth and funky vibes, "Heartbreak" seems tailor-made for any road trip playlist or summer night party soundtrack.

Formed in early 2015 by Nashville transplants Brian Carmona (Los Angeles, CA) and Vince DiCarlo (Ft. Worth, TX), XPLOR immediately began receiving attention from great local publications like No Country for New Nashville and Break On A Cloud, along with worldwide trendsetting music blogs like Kings of A&R and Best Before.

The single is a far cry from "Recover" another single released by the band. Where "Heartbreak" leans toward an uptempo track, "Recover" has more of a haunting and melodic quality, emotional in it's simplicity, with ethereal, dreamy vocals that tugs at the heartstrings of the listener to the opposite direction.

"Heartbreak" has the feel of a groovy, 80s throwback that is reminiscent of late nights with good friends, which has a unique quality in that it sounds both fresh and classic, but not at all dated. Rarely does a 'breakup song' make the listener want to move like "Heartbreak" does, but with the retro-pop feel and the infectious beat, it's sure to appeal to fans of the likes of St. Lucia, Phantogram and Jungle.. Lovers of synth music rejoice! XPLOR is here and they're staying a while.

Currently working on the release of their debut EP, XPLOR promises much more synth goodness on the horizon. No doubt we'll be seeing and hearing much more of XPLOR as they begin to gain more traction in the Nashville music scene.

Be on the lookout for their next release "B.Y.L.B. (Bring Your Love Back)" on Soundcloud.
