One of the great enduring legacies of our fair city is the Annual Hot Chicken Festival, a day of pain and humiliation for culinary masochists—and Nashville has a lot of them. Join in the fun on July 4th at East Park. The festival officially begins at 11 AM but you may want to get there earlier as the parking and the chicken become scarce quickly.
WHAT: Annual Hot Chicken Festival WHERE: East Park (700 Woodland Street) WHEN: July 4th 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM WHAT TO EXPECT: The Fire Truck Parade begins at 10:30 AM. The first 500 people in line will get free samples, but if you want a chance at those you should plan on being there at 9:15 or earlier. Also, standing in line for samples means you can't stand in line to buy hot chicken, and the samples are fairly small, so do what we do and bring a group of friends. That way, you can each stand in line at a different booth and have plenty of hot chicken to go around. Yazoo will have a beer tent, and there will be other food available as well, including ice cream to soothe away the day's mistakes.
