Alternative Rock as you know is about to get heavier and funkier as Spirits Republic release their third single of 2020 titled “On & Bound” on September 18, 2020. Spirits Republic are known for their unique and diverse songwriting and “On and Bound” represents this to the fullest extent. With this song, just like the music video, the listener can expect the unexpected.
“On & Bound” starts off strong with a relentless slap bass and hits you right in the gut. In just a matter of seconds, your heart rate is up, your pupils dilate, and you know you should probably buckle up for the ride. The disclaimer at the start of the music video relays to viewers how, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the band had to act quickly in casting their music video. Spirits Republic drummer Perry Dornbush plays the bride-to-be and the video is centered around her journey with only one friend showing up for the party due to the virus. What happens next is anyone’s guess as the bachelorettes barrel down the streets of downtown Nashville. “On & Bound” sounds like the kind of song you would hear in an action movie. Just when you think you have gotten used to the sleek and alluring groove, here comes the explosion.
Spirits Republic is known for its spontaneous, genre-fluid songwriting and “On and Bound” is certainly the next level for them. In a recent interview when the band members were asked what they want people to take from their music, they answered, “We hope our music will help listeners think outside the box and that people find excitement in the unexpected. It’s a reminder to never feel too comfortable as life will always give you some unexpected nonsense that in many cases will make you stronger if you tackle it head-on!” This is certainly represented with “On and Bound”.
Spirits Republic has plenty more to release in Fall 2020. Along with new music that was written during the quarantine, they will be expanding their “Horrible TV” YouTube Channel which covers exclusive content designed to enlighten and entertain. Whether it be original cartoons with “South Park-esque” cutouts of themselves, skits with exploding heads, or straight-up dank memes, their platform shares a unique take on culture both on the internet and beyond.
Make sure to follow Spirits Republic on Spotify, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook to see what else they have in store and stream “On & Bound” September 18th!
