First Annual Nashville Game Jam

The great people involved with Nashville Game Developers have come together to bring Nashville its very own game jam! The purpose of this event is to not only learn the basics of game design, but to make it as easy as possible for anyone (yes, anyone!) to participate.

Nashville Game Jam (Facebook)

The game jam will be using itch.io to publish the games, so if you want you can make an account ahead of time and join the group:

Nashville Game Jam - itch.io

On Friday night, the teams will form up and spend the weekend writing, coding, and scoring an original game. If you don't have design experience, or are not tech-savvy, don't worry! There are plenty of ways to contribute and everyone is welcome. You'll make new friends and have a working game by the end!

Friday night is also when the theme is provided, which the teams will have to use as a basis for their games. However, the theme is broad enough to accommodate lots of different ideas and approaches. But don't worry about any of this—everyone's in this together and there will be plenty of help and guidance along the way.

Here are the details:

hosted by Moo Creative Media
2115 Yeaman Pl Suite 310
Nashville, TN 37206

Friday, September 18th at 6pm until Sunday, September 20th at 6 pm. (You do not have to stay the whole time and can come and go as needed. Try to be there in the afternoon on Sunday as the teams finish up and demonstrate their games for everyone!)

Unfortunately, I didn't make the show in time to catch Elliot Root's performance, but I heard it was wonderful. Here are the first couple of shots from Shakey Graves (ft Rayland Baxter) and Lord Huron. Keep your eyes peeled for continued coverage of the festival season right here at LLN!

TONIGHT: H8 off 8th, Girlpool/Frankie Cosmos/Study Hall

We're facing that old dilemma again of having too many good shows happening at the same time. It's a blessing and a curse. Not only do you have to decide what you're going to miss out on, you don't have a good excuse for staying home and watching Sense8 with your cats.

To wit: tonight, a twist on the usual showcase is being provided by Nashville Rage hosting H8 off 8th at Mercy Lounge. Eight bands, fun times, drink specials (usually), and free to get in.

Also tonight: local badasses Study Hall take to the stage with Girlpool and Frankie Cosmos over at the Stone Fox. NGL we might cry a little bit so try not to stare, and anyway you'll be crying too. Three bands, drink specials (I think?), and $10.

You can't go wrong either way, except you'll also go wrong no matter what, so make a decision and go do it. Regrets are for Boro kids.

Nashville's latest success story is coming home for one night in the middle of an enormous tour supporting their new record, Feels Like. The venerable Bully will tear through a set at The Stone Fox on Friday, where frontperson Alicia Bognanno used to run sound. So you know it's gonna be tight.

Word on the street is that the band will have some of their limited edition vinyl on hand and I would highly recommend buying one if you can. It looks awesome, it sounds awesome—what more could you want?

Come out and enjoy the tunes along with sets from Quichenight and Gnarwhal. We'll see you there.
